The favorite dish of Saigon people is snail. Especially in rainy season, sipping snail and chatting with friends are the perfect couple.
Grilled squid – octopus
This dish is the most famous in University of Pedagogy on An Duong Vuong St, Dist.5. There are some other famous stalls: Niki Niki, Nha Trang grilled octopus or some stalls at the bank of Nhieu Loc Canal or Bach Tuoc Quan.
Grilled corn – sweet potato – chicken egg
The places have these two dishes are Gia Dinh Park and University of Pedagogy. Besides, fried corn and bo bia (coconut and sugar wrapped by rice paper roll) are also very delicious.
Grilled egg – sausage
This dish has been in Saigon for 1-2 years. Sausage is made into round shape like a candy. Grilled egg is the mixture of quail egg, spring onion and shrimp. You can found these dishes at Turtle Lake area (in front of Muc Tim editorial office), Dist.1 and street food area on Phan Xich Long, Phu Nhuan Dist.
Mixed paper rice
You can try mixed paper rice at the gate of Ernst Thalmann school, Gia Dinh Park and Hoang Van Thu Park, Nguyen Thuong Hien St. The sitting coffee area – Han Thuyen also has this dish.
Beef is marinated with five spice powder, a little tough, crunchy and eaten with coconut sauce and tamarind sauce. Stomach, liver and star fruit are the most favorite ones of this dish.
Lemon tea – cheese stick – fried fermented pork roll
Sipping lemon tea and enjoying cheese stick or fried fermented pork roll started from Hanoi and nowadays, it has been spread to Saigon and immediately become famous.
There are original sweet soups like: green bean sweet soup, sweet potato sweet soup to Chinese, Thailand, American sweet soup… You can come across some sweet stall at markets or street food zones of Saigon.
If you are a street food gourmet, you must know Hanh crab soup or Le Quang Dinh crab soup. A bowl of soup has many crab and very delicious.
Fried grinded fish
The young of Saigon may feel so familiar with fried grinded fish stalls on Suong Nguyen Anh St, Dist.1. Apart from fried grinded fish, these stalls also have sausage, beef, shrimp… On Nguyen Trai St there is also a delicious fried grinded fish with curry stall.
Fried powder cake
This dish is cooked with simple recipe, only with powder, egg, spring onion and soy bean sauce. Simple as it is, fried powder cake is still the best choice for every late afternoon.
Dried beef salad
If you have time to visit Le Van Tam Park in the afternoon, you will have the chance to enjoy dried beef salad with dried beef, papaya, peanuts and shrimp chips. And one of most famous stalls sell this dish is the stall at the corner of Nguyen Khac Nhu croad road or Co Bac, Dist.1. These two stalls open after 15 pm.
Tao Pho (soybean curd)
At the corner of Truong Dinh – Le Thanh Ton crossroad, it is very crowded at 6 o’clock. They come to enjoy bo bia and especially soybean curd with very cheap price. Ba tao pho stall is also very famous.
Banh can (a kind of fried cake)
Banh can is very famous in the Central, especially in Ninh Thuan. However, this dish is not very popular in Saigon so try this dish if you have chance.
Durian cake has hot crunchy crust and inside is durian cream. This mixture has made this dish so interesting and unique.
If you have the chance to cross Phan Xich Long St, Phu Nhuan District, you will meet a foreign guy selling Germany sausage. This dish is very easy to be addicted.
Thanh Dan Bakery on Nguyen Van Troi St is where many kinds Vietnam cake with many kinds of core are made, from salty to sweet core.
Grilled beef rolled with piper lolot
It is hard to hesitate when you smell the taste of this dish. In Saigon, there are many addresses famous for this dish: Ton Duc Thang St, Bac Hai residential or Thanh Vy stall near Dam Sen.
