Traveling from Da Nang to Hoi An will be a breeze in the future if a proposed railway connecting the two coastal towns comes to fruition.
On Saturday, October 14, the People’s Committee of Da Nang held a conference to discuss the city’s future investment projects. In attendance were President Tran Dai Quang, along with some 1,000 participants from government agencies and representatives from the private sector, according to VietnamNet.
One of the most notable items on the event’s agenda was the announcement of a planned Da Nang-Hoi An rail link. Director of the Da Nang Department of Planning and Investment Tran Van Son said at the meeting that the city welcomes funding for the train connection.
According to the plan, the line will span 33 kilometers, linking Da Nang International Airport with Hoi An Ancient Town through downtown Da Nang.
Son added that his department estimated that the project would require VND7.5-15 trillion (US$330-660 million) in investment, either via official development assistance (ODA) or a public-private partnership (PPP).
If the Da Nang-Hoi An train connection is funded this year, construction would take place from 2017 to 2023.
Tien Phong reports that at the forum, Da Nang officials also shared plans for waste treatment facilities for both solid waste management and sewage filtration.[Photo via Zing]
