VietJet has one again lived up to its reputation worldwide as “that bikini airline in Vietnam” after passengers on one of its new Thailand-Vietnam routes posted a surprise swimwear show.
VietJet’s Thai division recently launched a direct route from Bangkok to Da Lat, the mountain town in central Vietnam, reports Dan Tri. And the budget carrier decided to commemorate the occasion with an impromptu fashion show featuring scantily clad bikini models, just in time for Christmas!
Coconuts Bangkok reports that the racy show took place during the route’s first flight from the Thai capital to Da Lat on Monday, December 18. A video – which appears to have been recorded by a passenger – shows models strutting down the aisle in VietJet’s signature red-and-yellow swimwear.
The outfits were also adorned with flowers, as Da Lat is known as the “city of flowers” among tourists.
This appears to be just the second time that VietJet has made use of racy models for promotional purposes, apart from the notorious photoshoot that set the internet on fire in 2014.
To this day, the company still vehemently denies its involvement in the scandalous photo album, which – according to a VietJet representative at the time – was “leaked from a test shooting under a contract between VietJet Air and Venus and are not the official promotional photos of VietJet Air.”
Earlier this month, during the new flight’s press launch event in Thailand, CEO of Thai VietJet Nguyen Thi Thuy Binh shared that the launch of the route would coincide with Da Lat’s International Flower Festival.
“I am delighted that people from these two countries can now enjoy their neighboring country even more through our expanding flight network,” Binh said at the event.
It’s still too early to judge the route’s success, but passengers on the first flight appeared to have thoroughly “enjoyed” the spontaneous flower fashion show.
The Bangkok-Da Lat flights will feature Airbus A320 aircraft, according to Dan Tri. Tourists will enjoy four weekly flights on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays. Flights will take off from Bangkok at 10:45am and arrive in Da Lat one hour and 45 minutes later. The return trip departs from Da Lat at 12:45pm.[Photo via Coconuts]
