GREAT ORGANIC FRUITS!

For western visitors, especially those from cold climates, one of the great joys of being in Vietnam is the ready availability of exotic tropical fruits. Mango, mangosteen, jackfruit, durian, lychee and many others can be found, many all year round. Of course more easily recognized fruit such as banana, pineapple, grapes, apple, and citrus are also on offer. Prices in comparison to the west are incredibly low and the quality good.

Many people are now always on the lookout for organic produce, and this being a developing country means it is not always easy to find. However, Mr. Thanh Hai has set up a small business to fill this void. At the moment he is in the small market at 2 Hoang Dieu St., just 1.5km south of the tourist district. He sources his fruit from

organic producers from across the country. Local, Dalat, Mekong Delta and other regions provide the best available fruit when in season. While prices may be a little higher than the average street stall, it is worth remembering the old adage “you get what you pay for”! He is also planning to open a new outlet on Nguyen Thien Thuat St., in the heart of town in August, so watch out for it.

Now, it is easy to get ones hands on genuine, high quality organic fruit without having to search high and low. Mr. Hai is very helpful and will explain the secrets of these rarely seen fruit varieties with great passion!

Great quality!

BLUE FOX SPORTS BAR AND GRILL

New on the bar scene, the Blue Fox Bar and Grill is a great little watering hole “hidden in full sight” on Nguyen Thien Thuat St. A little difficult to find at first, its entrance is around the back of the lane near where Nguyen Thien Thuat ends and Tran Quang Khai St. begins on the corner. Look for the sign and bright yellow stairs. Run by soccer tragic Paul MacArthur, it is named after the logo of his team, Leicester City and offers the coldest of beers, great ‘pub grub’ and a bright and convivial atmosphere. The menu has breakfasts, burgers, salads, pasta and sandwiches, with the Honey Roasted Ham Sandwich a specialty. Aussie pies and pasties are a welcome sight for those who are looking for some home style comfort food while watching the rugby or Australian football. There are regular happy hours and patrons can sit and watch the ebb and flow of street life below from the 1st floor outlook. There are 4 big screens to watch whatever worldwide sport is hot at the minute and with a strong expat clientele it is a great place to find out what is happening around town.
