[Video] Saigon, The City of Contrasts, Where Past Meets Present

A new travelogue video featuring Saigon departs from the glossy sheen of its many travel-focused peers.

After counting down from three to one, the video highlights the contrast between old and new in Saigon by, for example, showing an old apartment building next to the Bitexco Financial Tower, all with a 35mm film-style color grading.

In the span of one minute, creators Duck Tran and Ted Doan were able to encapsulate the essence of Saigon through an analog prism and leave viewers in awe at the rapidly-changing city that never sleeps. Starting off with “Vinjas” on motorbikes and the age-old art of street vendors and outdoor markets, it focuses on the familiar things that contribute to the dynamic culture that we love.

Gradually, the video picks up tempo and we are introduced to a whole new spectrum of Saigon, including rising skyscrapers, state-of-the-art technology and the rapid development of tourism, particularly along Bui Vien Street.

To some, the most exciting aspect of Saigon is its unpredictability. We can most certainly find something noteworthy and surprising about the people here and the impact they have had on the urban landscape every time we step outside. This video is a testament to that.
