VNA to Provide In-Flight WiFi Service Later This Year

What a time to be alive.

The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam and the Ministry of Public Security recently gave the national flag carrier permission to launch in-flight WiFi service after four years of piloting, VnExpress reports. The aircraft covered by the license are Airbus A350 and Boeing 787.

The service is yet to have an official launch date, although according to Vietnam Airlines CEO Duong Tri Thanh, the carrier will choose either September 2, Vietnam’s National Day, or October 10, Hanoi’s liberation day, to launch the network.

In-flight WiFi connectivity will first be installed on four aircraft, with 20 more planes getting the service later. From the fourth quarter of 2020 until the third quarter of 2024, Vietnam Airlines plans to have its ten Airbus A350 aircraft equipped with the In-Flight Connectivity Service package.

“The carrier has invited its partners and suppliers to offer the service prices before August 25,” Thanh said, as reported by Vietnam News.

According to Thanh, these services are part of Vietnam Airlines’ ambition to incorporate a digital transformation and become an international five-star airline in the future.
