Grab Dabbles in Long-Distance Trips With Buses Between HCMC, Vung Tau

GrabBus is Grab’s newest addition to transform itself into a super app in Vietnam, offering an array of everyday services in one place.

From October 14, Grab users are able to book bus tickets between Saigon and Vung Tau on the Grab platform, Thanh Nien reports. The bus service, offered by Grab’s partner AVIGO, operates 24 trips per day going back and forth between Tan Son Nhat International Airport and Vung Tau Bus Terminal.

The ticket price for one seat is VND160,000 with insurance included. Shorter trips under 52.5 kilometers are VND80,000 per ticket. At the moment, tickets can be paid for via three methods: Grab’s own digital wallet Moca, debit cards or credit cards. After the ticket is purchased, users will receive a QR code that they can use to get on the bus.

Grab said that it wants to extend the service to other locales in the future. The tech company aims to open an inner-city route between District 1 and District 7 by the end of 2019. The buses going to and from the two Saigon’s districts will be operated by Grab’s partner City View, a shuttle bus service, with 44 trips every day.

Ever since its entrance to Vietnam’s market, Grab has been expanding beyond ride-hailing features to include a range of other services such as digital payment, food delivery and shipping. Back in May this year, the platform launched a hotel booking service in collaboration with Agoda and Booking.com. Earlier this month, the Singapore-based company launched GrabKitchen, a network of delivery-only shared kitchens, with its first location in Thu Duc District.
