Grab Vietnam Appoints Its First Female CEO, Nguyen Thai Hai Van

The current managing director of Grab’s Vietnam operation Jerry Lim will return to Singapore to his role as Regional Head of Customer Experience.

Singapore-based ride-share company Grab recently announced that the new CEO for Grab’s operations in Vietnam will be Nguyen Thai Hai Van, e27 reports. Van will start her role as the company’s managing director from February 1, 2020.

Van will oversee Grab’s strategy and operations across all its businesses in Vietnam, including ride-hailing, financial tech, food delivery and logistics. She will also direct Grab Vietnam’s development roadmap “Tech For Good,” a set of strategies the company claims are in alignment with Vietnam’s government key national policy priorities under the country’s “Socio-Economic Development Plan 2020.”

Specifically, three main areas are identified under Grab’s Tech For Good roadmap: poverty alleviation through providing services to micro-businesses and small businesses; building a skilled workforce by growing the Grab Vietnam’s Research and Development department; environmental sustainability by helping to build public transport facility in the country.

Nguyen Thai Hai Van joined Grab in November last year after spending 17 years at Unilever Vietnam. Van is also the co-chair of the Vietnam Mobile Marketing Association.

Grab recently announced that it is investing US$500 million more into Vietnam across a five-year period. This investment money will be used for employing new opportunities in financial tech, mobility solutions, logistics as well as launching new services and extending Grab’s current network of transport, delivery and payments in Vietnam.
